Getting the Facts Straight with the iPod Touch
The iPod Touch is a personal multimedia device that is primarily designed to function as a video player, audio player, and picture viewer. Another added feature is the WiFi capability where you will be able to connect through the internet using WiFi.
The answer to the question on whether you can use the iPod Touch as a remote control for your TV is without a doubt: no.
You need to remember that the TV uses infrared signals to receive commands from a remote. The iPod touch does not have infrared funtions. This means that the iPod Touch will not be able to work as a remote for your TV.
However, there are some devices and software programs that you can use in order to add this capability to your iPod Touch.
To do this, you will need a PC that has sound recording software, a pocket PC, an infrared device that can connect to your iPod Touch’s headset port, and also a remote control application to be installed in your pocket PC.
You will record the remote control infrared signal using the remote control application installed in your pocket PC with the infrared device plugged in the headphone plug. After this, you need to copy the recorded infrared signal that is converted to sound in your computer and transfer it as a sound that is in 44Hz 16bit Stereo PCM format in your iPod Touch.
After that, you will need to plug in the infrared device to your iPod Touch’s headset port and play the recorded infrared sound and you will now be able to control the TV using your iPod Touch.
Always remember that this may or may not work as iPod Touch is still a relatively new device.
