There is now remote PC access for the iPhone and iPod Touch courtesy Software company Orb which is a Remote PC access company. Now users of the iPhone and iPod can stream music, TV and movies without being locked into iTunes.
Orb needs to be installed on an “always on” Windows machine. Then it must be allowed to bypass firewalls and AV software. After this the media in the Windows default folders will be displayed (My Music, My Documents, My Photos, My Videos).
Any device that is connected - laptops, handsets that are properly equipped, PDA’s, video game consoles and other desktops can access the content.
Orb is usable only on Windows. Vista, XP Media Center, XP SP2 are supported. Other requirements are 100 MB available disk space, 512 MB RAM, and an equivalent processor to a 2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlolon 3200+
Most remote PC access options require a monthly fee. Orb on the other hand offers a free solution that eliminates the limitations of drive size that are there in handhelds. Orb can also be used socially.
