The iPod Classic is here as a replacement of the iPod video - fifth generation iPod. Once a player with relatively less memory, this iPod now has 160 GB of memory. It features a revamped user interface. The Classic is a brilliant piece of work.
With only a few changes in appearance, the classic is much better looking than the previous iPod. It is more durable as well. The front panel is brushed aluminium in black and silver - it is less scratch prone. Rounded edges that point off sharply like the new MacBook add to its appearance. The resolution and screen size are the same.
Though the menu options are generally the same, there is a split screen featured here. This splits the iPod menu and an image of the album cover on the right. There are other changes like new icons for the “Do Not Disconnect” screen.
The music menu features “Cover Flow” that allows you to scroll through the music library. You need to thumb through an array of album cover for this. Cover Flow is a bit slow in bringing the album art to the template.
The feel of the classic is like a hard drive based player. The sound is terrific with Shure SE210 earphones. No customizable EQ in this offering. Video is fantastic in this one in the tradition of the iPod. The main menu now features a Podcast option.
The battery life for the 160 GB classic is 7 hrs for video and 40 for audio. The classic will work great for you if you love iTunes and need 160 GB space.
