Earlier this week we reported that iPod Touch users were complaining about their video screen. Apple has now confirmed that there are some early units that have a defective screen. It appears that some people are complaining about problems with their iPhone screen. It’s unkown what Apple will do about the problem, but we suggest you return your iPod Touch unit with a defective screen.

Walt Mossberg is a very well known guy in the world of technology and gadgets. This week the tech columnist for the Wall Street Journal has given his opinion on the Apple iPod Touch. Walt will give you a nice introduction on what the iPod Touch is and what functionalities it has. Walt got to test the iTunes WiFi Music Store and he really liked the mobile Safari. He was a bit disappointed about the battery life of the iPod Touch and what he really mised is the email program that was in the iPhone.

Yesterday we reported that synching new iPods from Linux was disabled but in just a couple of hours fans of programs as Amarok and gtkopod have managed to get rid of the blockage that keeps them from using their favorite programs on the iPod Touch and other iPod media players. It’s pretty complicated, but they’re still working on it!

As we reported earlier, the Apple iPod Touch is coping with some screen problems and not only with the regular consumers… During the nominees for comedy writers on the Emmys each nominee was shown 5 seconds in a video on a PDA, phone or iPod screen being held by a faceless hand. The first nominee was shown on the screen of a new Apple iPod Touch and the screen was… black! You just couldn’t see what was on the screen while the other handhelds did just fine. Not a good thing for Apple if you ask me…

iLounge has a very extensive Apple iPod Touch review up on their website that has some nice comparisons between the iPhone and the new iPod Touch. They were actually a little disappointed about the new iPod Touch, they felt that the video screen has a shallow viewing angle and some unusual shimmering effect in certain dark places on the screen. Other iPod Touch owners are reporting the same issue with examples on the MacRumors forums and on this Flickr set.

Don’t start to worry about this issue, it appears that most iPod Touch units don’t have this problem.

iPhuc. Recompiled and working. I’ve created a hacker version that I’m using to send requests. So we’ve moved a little closer. Now I’m getting “unrecognized request” messages in GRestore mode instead of request not founds.

Recovery mode. Achieved both by hand and by software. The old restore commands do not work. iTouch uses a new restore protocol. Instead of pushing data from iTunes, the iTouch pulls data via request. It used to be that iTunes sent a request, and the iPhone returned results. Now iTunes starts a restore mode and waits for requests from the iTouch and serves the requested data.

RAM disk decryption. Not yet. No luck yet on finding the key, which may be getting served from Apple.

GRestore. Partial success.

Shell mode. Maybe.

File read/write from disk. Achieved. Pretty much all the normal inside-jail stuff works.

File system mount. Not there yet.

Engadget got a retail version of the new Apple iPhone touch. They say they’re bewildered by a few things, according to them the screen of the iPod touch looks so different from the iPhone’s. Looks like Apple has also switched back to the scratch-magnet, shiny rear casing. You can’t add calendar appointments to touch but you can add contacts. BoingBoing is reporting that Apple has blocked its new iPods, so that includes the super awesome iPod touch, from synching with other third party applications. The Linux community using free software such as Amarok and gtkpod for uploading songs to their iPod will be in trouble with the new iPods. It should be easy to get passed it, Apple has added a nummer to the front of the database file. Just a matter of time before they get passed it.

A funny first newspost; the new Apple iPod touch is having an identity crisis! Some iPod touch slipped out of the factories without the Mac OSX installed on it. It looks like Apple forgot to delete a small part of iPhone code on the iPod touch and then you get this, an iPod touch that says iPhone is disabled. This guy’s iPod touch is part iPhone.
